- TASTING NOTE: This is quite pure in style, there's plenty of cherry and dark brambly fruits, a little spice and a nice lick of tannin, with some juicy acidity keeping it light on its feet. A fresh and vibrant Rioja with no oak influence at all. Nice served out of the esky on a hot day.
- ABOUT THE WINE: The Akutain Cosecha is comprised of mostly Tempranillo with a small percentage Garnacha hand-harvested from estate owned vineyards. Fermented in fiberglass vats with native yeasts, it a undergoes a short maceration, before being raised over winter in vats over winter before being bottled without filtration or fining.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Akutain is a family owned winery from Rioja Alta founded in 1978 by Jose Penagaricano and winemaker Angel Olmos. They only vinify grapes from their own 6.5 ha of vineyards which are managed sustainably with no use of herbicides or chemicals. Their methods are old school Rioja. Each vineyard is vinified separately in stainless steel and fiberglass and the preference is for old American oak for ageing. Sulphur use is minimal, their is no fining or filtration of the wines and no additions or extractions. Only 35-40 thousand bottles are produced per vintage. Akutain is an under the radar gem of the Rioja.

A: Yes if they have your receipt. However all alcohol orders must be picked up by an individual 18 year or older. Proof of age and sobriety are required as per RSA regulation.
