- TASTING NOTE: Though never a brawny wine, Rose Poupre is traditionally Gaillard's most palate-staining, brooding Côte-Rôtie. The 2020 is true to form, though the stamp of the vintage lends this release considerable charisma and approachability. It's compact and layered with dark berry fruit flavours underpinned by spices, sophisticated structure and mineral nuance. A fabulous combination of fruit purity and terroir expression.
- ABOUT THE WINE: The charismatic Rose Pourpre (Purple Rose) comes from a particularly steep, one-hectare parcel of 40-year-old vines rooted in the schist soils of Côte Rozier. It's a warm, amphitheatre-shaped site situated just under the famous La Landonne, at the heart of the Côte Brune. Harvesting was done by hand and the fruit was all de-stemmed before crushing. It was aged for 18 months in new Allier and Nevers barrels.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Pierre Gaillard began his career working for both Vidal Fleury and Guigal (where he was part of the team that created La Turque) before he struck out on his own in 1985. Since then, both his reputation and his vineyards have expanded, mainly in the Saint Joseph, Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu appellations, but also Cornas and an estate in the south-west, Domaine de Madeloc, where Banyuls and Collioure are produced. No matter the appelation, every time you open a bottle with his name on it you know you are going to get a thrilling and bristling expression of the site from where it came. That’s his thing. There is no dead weight in the Gaillard cellar and each wine offers precision and purity of fruit. This is not to suggest Gaillard is a technocrat. Far from it. He has great vineyards, infectious passion, makes good decisions and possesses a dirt-under-the-fingernails grit which means that most of the hard work has been done before the fruit arrives in the cellar. The quality of fruit he harvests, allied to his fine touch in the cellar, results in some of the most evocative, flavoursome and stylish northern Rhône wines going around.

A: Yes if they have your receipt. However all alcohol orders must be picked up by an individual 18 year or older. Proof of age and sobriety are required as per RSA regulation.
