- ABOUT THE WINE: Blend of seven plots with average vine age of 60-70 years, organically farmed, incorporating some biodynamic principles and minimal plowing so as to not disturb the soils. Strict debudding to limit yields and encourage good concentration. All grapes are picked and sorted by hand at harvest. Whole cluster semi-carbonic maceration in stainless steel tank, indigenous yeast fermentation. No sulfur added in vinification.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: "Antoine Lienhardt's father is from Alsace, but his mother's family are Burgundian. In 2011 Antoine decided to return to Corgoloin and take up the reins of the domaine that his grandfather Maurice, who had retired in 1992, used to run. It was Maurice who planted the Plantes aux Bois vineyard, a favourite of Antoine's. After a few years of relatively traditional winemaking, Antoine has established the path he wants to follow. Organic (it was ECOCERT-certified in 2018) with biodynamic elements, sulphur-free unless a touch is needed at the bottling, with a horse in the vineyards and a tree-planting programme alongside. Concrete eggs are making their appearance in the cellar. Antoine is my height, so I suggested to him that working in the vineyards might be difficult. Not at all, I am fit, I play rugby, came the response. The reds are made 100 per cent with whole bunches, vinified over just 6-10 days. The range has been extended by a small number of négociant cuvées, made in the same way and from organic grapes. I was very impressed tasting the 2019s from Antoine Lienhardt. A: Yes if they have your receipt. However all alcohol orders must be picked up by an individual 18 year or older. Proof of age and sobriety are required as per RSA regulation.
